Five Reasons Why I Am a Man Against Porn

Five Reasons Why I Am A Man Against Porn

I am an outspoken critic of porn.  I am also a proponent of putting an end to the global industry it has spawned.

My goal in all of this, however, is to offer hope and encouragement to men and women who struggle with compulsive sexual behavior disorders.

Most, if not all of these disorders, are connected to porn consumption and/or addiction!

This “work” against porn, in support of love (yes, the two are mutually exclusive) began over ten years ago.

My purpose is to help bring an end to the porn-culture and eradicate it within my lifetime.

The more I speak against porn, the more I find people who think it’s silly to do so.  Many argue that porn doesn’t harm anyone.  Others contend that if it is a problem, then its a private problem.

Porn is the New Public Health Crisis

Yet, in spite of the entrenched belief that porn isn’t a problem, more and more scientific and empirical evidence is pointing in the other direction.

In other words, it’s becoming clearer and clearer that pornography is a public health crisis and that porn-addiction is one of the central addictions of this century.  But, in this post, I am not going to point to all the statistics.  I am just going to offer you some reasons (from a practitioners perspective) why I am a man against porn and why you should be too!

Porn Consumption and Twelve (or so ) Alarming Trends Series!

Porn Consumption and Twelve (or so) Alarming Trends, Pt. 2

Did you know that 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were watched last year alone.

That number is four billion, five hundred and ninety-nine million hours of porn viewed last year.

Let’s reflect on that number for a few minutes.

There are a total of 8,760 hours in a year.  That’s less than ten thousand. If one person were to watch that much porn, over a life time, they would require a life expectancy of somewhere in the five century range.

Another way to reflect on this statistic is to consider just how many videos per person this number represents.

Parenting Against Porn’s Mid-week Minute- This Year’s Dirty Dozen!

Welcome to the Disruptus Renovatus Mid-Week Minute, a Parenting Update.  This is a tool (often a short read) designed to assist parents who want to protect their children and grandchildren from the influence of porn!

Many times I’ll provide helpful tips and hints related to technology and the media-crazed teen world.

Other times I’ll offer stories from my experience of parenting and struggle with porn addiction.

Most of these posts will highlight, however, porn’s ongoing, and often subterranean, influence in our culture.  May of us, in the midst of our busy work-a-day world, simply don’t have time to see the subtle influences shaping childhood and teen life today.

Hopefully this Mid-week Minute will be an aid for those who want to do more, but simply don’t know where to start!

This week, I am highlighting The National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s recently released 2017 Dirty Dozen list.

You won’t believe who made this year’s infamous list.

Or, maybe you will. Continue reading “Parenting Against Porn’s Mid-week Minute- This Year’s Dirty Dozen!”

Christmas Morning: Opening the Gift of a Porn-Free Life!

The Christmas season is one of gift-giving and receiving.  In all likelihood you will, on Christmas morning, celebrate this gift-exchange tradition with friends and family.  You may gather around a tree, in a living room, near a fireplace, etc. and open gifts shared by those who love you and those whom you love.

If you happen to be struggling with your porn addiction during this season, you’ll likely be disengaged from this life-giving moment.

You may, in fact, totally check out.

Indeed, if you’ve been trolling the web for porn in recent days, then meaning-filled, life-giving moments of community such as the ones I’ve just described could easily and quickly overwhelm you.

While the external joy may be palpable to everyone else, your internal, secret shame will prevent you from the soul-enriching moment this opportunity provides.

You will want to run.

And you may think that running is your best option.

You may believe that running is your only option.

Porn addiction bedevils us into believing that secrecy and segregation are the only options we have available to us.  The addiction screams within, “Run away, you’re not good enough to enjoy this gift.  Run away, return to me.”

It’s a lie and we all know it.

I am not sure we know – or have experienced – why it’s a lie.  To know why it’s a lie is to discover hope.

Beholding True Beauty! Traps and Triggers, Part 4.

Triggers and Traps: The Trap Day

man-praying-on-beach-my-own-journey-out-of-pornI know the term Trap Day is an unfamiliar one.  It is, in fact, not one I have heard of anywhere else.  That’s because it’s one that is birthed from my personal journey out of porn addiction and into a porn-free life.  In my experience the Trap Day is a day of ongoing struggle with porn’s pull.  It’s a day when one is particularly susceptible to porn and its destructive power of persuasion.

The Trap Day is as unexpected as it is unavoidable.

The Trap Day is debilitating because it is durative.

While the term may be new to you, the experience I am describing is likely all too familiar.  It’s the experience of being stuck in your addiction and – seemingly – unable to break free.  You can break free, though.  Before I discuss how it’s possible to live porn – free in the troes of the Trap Day, I am going to identify a couple of Trap Day characteristics.  Identifying some characteristics may help you recognize, prepare for, and resist this day in your life.
